The Captain Dan originally served in US Coast Guard ship, serving during 45 years as a buoy tender. It was renamed in honor of a local charter fishing captain (Dan Garnsey) before being, deliberately, being sunk as an artificial reef in 1990, in front of Pompano Beach, FL

It is upright at a depth of 110 ft, and his length is of 175 ft, being suitable for advanced recreational divers. For photography, it is an both an interesting subject and a setting, since it has large openings that illuminate the interior of its structure, allowing to take photos playing with the outside light.

The shipwreck is covered by a wide variety of flora and homes, especially in its interior, large schools of fish such as groupers, barracuda, jacks and snappers. It is also common to see nurse sharks and eagle rays on the outside.
